The beginning of the end is tomorrow. When the eight and nine seeds meet in the first game of the WCC Tournament they will play a game of basketball. The winning team advances to play #5 San Francisco on Thursday. The losing team has to wait until next November before they can play another game.

The good news is that the star players on both teams look to be returning next season. Anthony Ireland, an all-WCC selection for the Lions, is just a junior. Ryan Nicholas, an all-WCC Honorable Mention for the Pilots, is also just a junior.

Portland has won both games against the Lions this season and three more games overall (both in WCC play and including the non-conference). The winner faces San Francisco. The Lions have not defeated the Dons this season but the Pilots won one of the two meetings.

This will be the second year the WCC Tournament has had this, essentially a play-in game, single first round game. This will also be the last year for this game. Next season with the addition of the Pacific Tigers, the WCC will move to a full and normal ten team bracket. Enjoy this game, for it is the last time it will happen. Also because for the next three WCC Tournament days there will be more than one game in a day so use Wednesday's match-up to get some relaxed watching on.
