CBI Championship Series Game One

CBI Championship Series Game One
George Mason Patriots 73 at Santa Clara Broncos 81
Leavey Center, Santa Clara, California.
George Mason falls to 21-15 on the season.
Santa Clara improves to 25-11 on the season.
Next game at George Mason on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 at 4:00 PM PDT.

It was an off night by recent Broncos' offensive standards. Santa Clara shot just 44.2% from the field tonight, compared to 48%, 48% and 51% in the first three of its CBI games. That proved to be enough though, thanks in part to a 10-24 night behind the three point arc and another large scoring output from senior guard Kevin Foster.

Foster made half of the Broncos' threes and totaled a game high 28 points. Evan Roquemore pitched in 20 points and six assists. Senior Marc Trasolini had 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Of the Broncos' five seniors only Kyle Perricone did not see the floor in the last game for the group at the Leavey Center (games two and three will take place at George Mason). Seniors Raymond Cowles III and Niyi Harrison contributed 10 and two points respectively.

The Broncos will finish the season 16-5 at home. They are now one win away from their second post-season championship in three years. With 25 wins this Santa Clara team is destined to finish with the second most wins in school history, only the 1969 team has done better with 27.

For George Mason Jonathan Arledge led the way with 21 points on eight of 12 shooting. Reserve Patrick Holloway added 17 on 6-11 shooting. Starter Byron Allen led the team in minutes and assists with 32 and eight plus he scored 15 points on six of 12 shooting. No other Patriots scored in double figures or shot over 50% from the field. As a team the Patriots were held to 41.9% shooting.

On the plus side for the Patriots they outrebounded the Broncos 35-30 and 13 to eight on the offensive glass. For a team that cut the lead to four in the final minute despite a poor shooting night, that's a good sign heading into a two game home stand.
