WCC Products Heading to Summer League

The NBA Draft has come and gone but there are still ways for players who went undrafted (along with those who were) to find their way onto an NBA roster. The most likely avenue for these now free agents is the NBA Summer League. There are two separate leagues, one in Orlando and one in Las Vegas. Last year the WCC was well represented in both locales. This year, though most teams have yet to release full rosters, the conference is looking to have a similar showing.

The first of the two leagues is the Orlando Summer League which goes from July 7th to 12th in Orlando, Florida. The Orlando league is smaller of the two with only ten teams participating: Boston, Brooklyn, Detroit, Houston, Indiana, Miami, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Philadelphia and Utah. The Celtics' roster will feature the 13th pick in the Draft, Kelly Olynyk. Since draft night another WCC product has latched on with one of these teams. Matthew Dellavedova signed with the Magic for Summer League. The Celtics and Magic face off in their first game in Orlando, June 7th at 8am PDT.

The second, and larger, of the two leagues is in Las Vegas from July 12th through 22nd. The Las Vegas summer league will feature the 20 teams that did not participate in Orlando plus the Miami Heat and the NBA D-League Select team.

So far two 2013 WCC products have found a team for the Las Vegas league. Elias Harris was picked up by the L.A. Lakers, which sets up a reunion with former frontcourt mate Robert Sacre. The Lakers kick off Summer League play against Cleveland on July 12th at 5pm PDT. Brandon Davies will be playing for the other L.A. team, the Clippers. The Clippers play Atlanta at 3pm PDT on July 12th.

In the coming days teams will continue signing players and releasing rosters. Check back in the days leading up to Orlando and then again before Las Vegas for more in depth coverage.

  1. Davies will obviously sign. Do you think there are any other guys that may get picked up? Foster? Any SMC guys?

  2. Foster and Trasolini both have good shots at making a roster in Orlando and/or Vegas. Any other guys from SMC would be older since Mitchell Young is busy playing in Australia. Last year Mickey McConnell, Diamon Simpson and Rob Jones all made Summer League rosters so any of them could be back this year. Plus, who knows, Patty Mills could play.

  3. I read on the Gonzaga message board that Steven Gray is playing for the Pacers in the Orlando summer league. Can you confirm that?

  4. Gray's agent said that he will play with the Pacers but there is nothing official yet from the Pacers.

  5. Just saw a tweet that Delly will be playing with Cleveland rather than Orlando this summer

    1. Yep. Posted a new article with that update. Probably going to have to do a couple more of these until every team has released official rosters like the Magic did today.
