Will Tyler Haws be able to get back above the 20 point mark after an 18 point performance against Montana? Is Matt Carlino's two games of improvement hopefully culminates in a return to form. Haws and Carlino will be be going up against a talented backcourt in Ames.
4:00 PM PST:
San Diego Toreros at Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks
William R. Johnson Coliseum, Nacogdoches, Texas.
San Diego is 3-4 on the season. They are currently on a two game losing streak and are 0-2 on the road. This is their third game of a four game road trip.
Stephen F. Austin hails from the Southland Conferece and is 4-0 on the season. They are 2-0 at home.
Radio: XX 1090 AM in San Diego.
Online: Live audio from San Diego Athletics.
San Diego looked to be the team on the upswing in the WCC this year. I picked them to finish fifth as did the coaches. Currently they are the only WCC team below .500 and one of their wins came against a non-D1 program and are on pace to finish with the same record they had last season (13-18). To keep up with expectations the Toreros need a win here before their loss total becomes to big to overcome.
5:00 PM PST:
#12 Gonzaga Bulldogs vs Pacific Tigers
McCarthey Athletic Center, Spokane, Washington.
Gonzaga is 7-0 on the season and 4-0 at home.
Pacific is 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in true road games. They are currently on a one game losing streak.
TV: KHQ in the Inland Northwest, Root Sports elsewhere.
Radio: KGA 1510 AM in the Inland Northwest.
Online: Live audio from KGA.
Gonzaga is coming off an entertaining 104-57 win over regional foe NAIA Lewis Clark State College. Pacific is getting a taste of the Kennel before joining the WCC for next season. The Tigers have already beat WCC reigning champion Saint Mary's in the second round of the DirecTV classic in Anaheim and now look to upset the conference juggernaut Gonzaga. The Zags have a tough stretch of games following this and may be looking past the Tigers.
Loyola Marymount Lions vs. Portland State Vikings
Gersten Pavillion, Los Angeles, California.
Loyola Marymount is 3-3 on the year, 1-1 at home and currently on a one game losing streak.
Portland State hails from the Big Sky Conference. The Vikings are 1-3 on the year 0-3 on the road and currently on a three game losing streak.
Radio: KXLU 88.9 FM in Los Angeles
Online: Live audio from KXLU.
The Lions were picked to finish fourth in the WCC by both myself and the coaches. They are currently one of three teams at or below .500 and tied for seventh in the standings with fellow 3-3 Portland. Portland beat the Vikings by 21 last week at home. Loyola Marymount should pick up this win and really needs to if they want to stay in contention for fourth place. Ashley Hamilton has taken some of the load off of Anthony Ireland's back in the past two games particularly in rebounding, where the 5'10'' Ireland should never be atop the box score, and the Lions have looked signifcantly better because of that. Look for Hamilton's reemergence to continue against the Vikings.
6:05 PM PST:
Pepperdine Waves at Utah Valley Wolverines
McKay Center, Orem, Utah.
Pepperdine is 4-2 on the season, 2-2 on the road and currently on a four game winning streak.
Utah Valley hails from the worst conference aroud, the Great West, and is 3-5 so far this season. Ther are 1-0 at home and on a three game losing streak.
Pepperdine has been surprising this year after a stumble out of the gate. Redshirt senior Lorne Jackson has provided the spark for the Waves after a year off due to injury. A win tonight would put the Waves half way to their win total from last season only a quarter of the way into the season.
9:00 PM PST:
Santa Clara Broncos vs. California-Santa Barbara Gauchos
Leavey Center, Santa Clara, California.
Santa Clara is 5-1 on the season, 4-1 at home and on a one game losing streak.
UCSB hails from the Big West Conference and is 2-4 on the season. They are 0-3 on the road and currently on a two game losing streak.
Radio: KDOW 1220 AM in the Bay Area.
Online: Live audio from KDOW.
Santa Clara has been playing very well behind the reunited core of Kevin Foster and Marc Trasolini. The Broncos are already three games away from matching last season's win total. They were undefeated until suffering a two point home loss at the hands of the always strong Utah State Aggies. UCSB held San Diego to just 39 points in a home win over the Broncos on 11/21. That win is the Gauchos only win over a D-1 opponent this season.
Saint Mary's Gaels vs. Cal-Poly Mustangs
McKeon Pavillion, Moraga, California.
Saint Mary's is 4-2 on the season. They are 2-0 at home and currently on a two game losing streak.
Cal-Poly hails from the Big West and is 2-2 on the season. They're 1-1 on the road and currently on a a one game winning streak.
Online: Very expensive live audio can be found on Saint Mary's Athletics website.
Saint Mary's has been struggling this year, they suffered back to back setbacks in the DirecTV Classic (which many expected them to win) at the hands of Pacific and Georgia Tech. Cal-Poly is looking for a second straight upset after slaying then #11 UCLA at Pauley Pavillion. Saint Mary's needs to win this game to get back on track. The loss of Rob Jones this offseason has really hurt the Gaels inside.
9:30 PM PST:
Portland Pilots at Washington State Cougars
Beasley Coliseum, Pullman, Washington.
Portland is 3-3 on the season, they are 0-3 on the road and currently on a one game winning streak.
Washington State hails from the Pac-12 Conference. They are 4-3 on the season, 4-0 at home and currently on a two game winning streak.
TV: Pac-12 Network
Radio: KPDQ 800 AM in the Portland area.
Online: Live audio from KPDQ.
The Pilots are coming off a five point victory over upstream rival Lewis & Clark (non-D1) and entering into the toughest three game stretch on any WCC team's schedule. #24 UNLV visits Portland next followed by a trip to #8 Kentucky. The Pilots would like to pick up a win against a Cougars team that has already fallen at the hands of a WCC team, Pepperdine, before entering those two brutal games. If the Pilots frontcourt can control Brock Motum the Cougars can be slain.
